Summer is finally here! Gardens are awash with colour, days are long and sunny (borderline scorching) and the city is crammed with festivals – from the Medieval Fayre to the Joburg Day; from the Latin Fest to the Taste of Joburg; the Inner City Festival to neighbourhood church fetes! There is a lot to see and do over the coming weekends and I am getting ready for them all!!
So this weekend, K and I headed to Mark’s Park in Emmarentia to get a feel of some serious Latino-style music, dancing and their food of course. Fiesta Latina’s main aim is to bring an authentic Latin American experience to South Africa and to share their culture with the locals – both Latin and non Latins.
As promised, the festival had mouth watering delicacies from over 10 different Latin American countries – Mexican Nachos and Taquitos, Spanish Paellas, Colombian Empanadas and Argentinean Alfajores to name a few. And no Latin event can be complete without Sangria and hot chocolate! Shame they didn’t have churros.

There was enough entertainment lined up to keep the entire family happy – from live music, traditional dances, games and competitions. However, K and I did not stay long for any of these. We had just gone for the food and shamelessly ate as much as our stomachs would allow!
